Kim Ortega, M.A.
Licensed
Audiologist
Kim Ortega is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Audiology program through
the University of Florida. This is a distance learning
program for practicing audiologists. This means that Kim can continue to work as
an audiologist while she takes courses and earns her
doctorate. Kim already has a B.A. in
Communication Disorders from California State University, Fullerton and an M.A.
in Audiology from California State University, Los Angeles. She is licensed in California as both an Audiologist and as a Hearing Aid
Dispenser. She holds the American Speech & Hearing
Association’s Certificate of Clinical Competence and is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Audiology.
Kim originally wanted to be a teacher. In 2002 she was working as an
Assistant Teacher at a school for the hearing impaired. That
is where her passion for audiology began. Although she was
very close to completing her degree in teaching, she changed majors and began
working toward a degree in Audiology. While this cost
her quite a bit of extra tuition, and time, she has never regretted the
decision. She LOVES being an audiologist.
Kim says that there is no greater joy then helping people to hear
better. It does not matter whether it is a young child who
can now hear and learn to speak, a working person who can now keep their job, or
a retiree who can now hear their grandchildren, she loves making a difference in
each patient’s life.
Kim works in our office only part-time. We wish she
was here full time, but she already has a full time job at
home with a husband, a small toddler, and another on the way. When Kim does catch a few minutes for herself she is an avid reader and
also enjoys an occasional trip to the gym (when she can fit it in)
